Being a parent is difficult on countless fronts, simply due to reliance. Your children are reliant on you for everything: clothing, food, attention, love, encouragement, etc. And it’s no different with their dental health. Kids don’t understand how or why they should brush their teeth, so they have to rely on you to provide that guidance.
However, by getting started early and showing them the value of oral health, the simple practices you teach them will be ingrained in their behaviour well into their teenage and adult years.
Typically, children don’t learn how to brush their own teeth until they’re at least a few years old. As a result, you’ll have to take on this responsibility in the interim. Your continued assistance – until they become more independent – will help your kids achieve a bright smile that they’ll be proud to show everywhere they go.
Once your baby’s teeth begin emerging, you can take a soft-bristled, small-headed toothbrush to clean them. Similar to how you brush your own teeth; brush your child’s teeth twice a day – once in the morning and again before going to bed. Use a very thin layer of toothpaste, and lightly brush using circular movements for a couple of minutes.
When your child is a few years old (typically 3 or 4), you can then begin using more toothpaste. Additionally, once your child’s teeth begin emerging alongside one another, you’ll also want to start flossing them.
You should keep brushing your child’s teeth, or help them with it until they feel comfortable doing it on their own. There is no set in stone age for this, however, 7 or 8 years old is a good rule of thumb.
At Stoney Trail Dental, our team of licensed dentist professionals is here to help you. As such, we offer a plethora of services to meet your dental needs. View the comprehensive service list below to see which services are most appropriate for you.
Despite dental appointments being mostly worry-free experiences, many people still harbour strong feelings of fear and anxiety connected to dental visits. For this reason, our team at Stoney Trail Dental offers dental sedation.
In an effort to help you relax and enjoy your dental visit, we offer a variety of sedation options, including:
These methods of dental sedation will calm your nerves and enable you to stop stressing over the situation.
Dental cleaning is the standard procedure when someone comes in. Most people don’t need an extensive operation. Generally speaking, they just require a quick cleaning to ensure everything is copacetic. During such examinations, we search for indicators of gingivitis and other forms of gum disease.
While providing you with a thorough dental cleaning, we also assess your mouth using first-rate oral equipment – all in an effort to ensure your oral hygiene is in good shape.
Are your wisdom teeth causing you pain? Is it starting to become too much to bear? If so, then you’ll want to speak with your dentist about the possibility of wisdom tooth extraction. With this operation, the pain will not only be remedied but future problems will be prevented.
The procedure involves using local anesthesia close to the site where the extraction is to take place. Once the sedation has taken effect, the extraction will begin. Moreover, you won’t feel a thing during the extraction of your tooth or teeth.
Oral cancer is a serious disease in the dental world. There’s good and bad news when it comes to oral cancer. The bad news is if it’s discovered too late, the outcome can be major issues or possibly death. However, the good news is that if it’s detected early enough, all of those problems and concerns can be completely avoided.
And that’s where oral cancer screenings can be of use. At Stoney Trail Dental, we can provide these oral screenings to uncover any potential oral cancer developments prior to it having the chance to proliferate.
Otherwise known as Halitosis treatment, we offer bad breath care to ensure you’re not scaring off anyone unintentionally. Bad breath can be a nuisance, especially when you’re trying to make a good first impression. Nip this in the bud with our Halitosis treatment services.
Stoney Trail Dental can help remedy your bad breath so that you’re effortlessly attracting others rather than repelling them away.
Whether you’re taking care of your baby’s oral health or your own, the same principles apply. Take on good quality oral habits and practice them day in and day out. And before you know it, you’ll have a glorious smile that will be the envy of those around you.
But to ensure that’s the case, it helps to get assistance from an expert. Contact our office today to book a dental appointment to ensure the health of your smile.
