Dental cleaning process
at Stoney Trail Dental

We will begin your dental cleaning with a physical exam looking for signs of gingivitis around your gums and teeth. Your dental hygienist uses top of the line tools to assist in examining the inside of your mouth so we know what is happening. Intra-oral cameras and x-rays give us an intimate look below your gums, helping identify any deeper issues involving the structure of your teeth. Following your appointment, your dentists will provide aftercare instructions. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at 403-248-4230.

At Stoney Trail Dental, we use Silver Diamine Fluoride to help stop tooth decay quickly, without pain or injection. For more information about Silver Diamine Fluoride, please see the downloadable PDF document below.

During the cleaning process we scrape away plaque and tartar around your gum line, to help prevent tooth decay. Visiting Stoney Trail Dental for regular cleanings helps keep you in good oral health.

Our team at Stoney Trail Dental wants to make your hygienist appointment fun. After the removal of plaque and tartar, we give you the fun option of choosing a flavour for the specialized gritty toothpaste about to be used. We personalized your experience with us to your taste and personality. The slight grit on this toothpaste is terrific for polishing your teeth.

Do your children have a hard time brushing certain areas? We recommend molar sealants to prevent cavities in these tricky spots. A molar sealant is a thin plastic coating painted on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This sealant helps prevent cavities from forming and acts as a barrier from bacteria getting inside small grooves in the molars.

If you are afraid of cleanings then your dental hygienist can use a local anesthetic before this process, to alleviate any sensitivity you may feel during the cleaning.
Once your teeth are cleaned, we provide you with diagnostic and preventative services plus educational information, such as tooth brushing and flossing instructions. When you leave the dentist, you will be fully prepared to continue a healthy regiment on your own. Don’t forget to come back to Stoney Trail Dental for regular check-ups.
It is good to note that we offer a free whitening procedure with your dental cleaning so your teeth can be sparkling white as well as shiny clean.
