Crowns and Bridges

Crowns & Bridges

Are your teeth letting you down? Let us help you determine if you need a crown or bridge. A crown protects your teeth by being cemented over your original teeth and a bridge is used in spaces where they once were.
At Stoney Trail Dental, we make your experience unique and your smile brighter!

Crowns

A crown is a hollow artificial tooth that saves your weak tooth from further fractures. It blankets your damaged tooth or one that was treated with a root canal. Crowns add natural colour to your poorly shaped, miscoloured teeth, attaching to a bridge and blanketing over dental implants. Crowns can last for several years when looked after properly.

Crown Types

Porcelain

  • more brittle than composite or metal
  • look similar to real teeth

Metal

  • composed of gold
  • can cause wear on opposing teeth
  • durable

Porcelain Fused to Metal

  • natural-looking
  • a stronger option to composite or porcelain
  • metal might show if you have thin gums or gums that have shrunk over time
  • not as susceptible to chipping compared with porcelain or ceramic

We take the time to go over the crown process with you so you know what to expect.

Composite

  • natural-looking finish
  • less chipping than porcelain; may wear down easier
  • a highly polished surface can stain

Bridges

Bridges are also known as a fixed bridge, an artificial tooth or teeth that is hollow and fills in space where your natural tooth once was. If you have one or more missing teeth, a bridge is essential to provide the functionality of your mouth.

We cement it to your natural teeth or surgically placed implants, on either side of the space where your teeth are missing.

Types of Bridges

1

Traditional

Used when you have teeth on either side of your missing tooth/teeth.

2

Implant

If you have no healthy teeth or very few to support a bridge then we can use an implant. The implant is anchored in your jawbone to provide the strength for the new bridge.

3

Custom Made

Anchored to your dental implants and custom made.

4

Resin-Bonded or Maryland

When you have missing teeth in front of your mouth a resin-bonded bridge is used. The bridge is affixed to your natural teeth by way of metal bands and dental cement.
