As you age, your dental routine might change. Why? There are unique dental issues that can arise due to ageing.
Dry Mouth: Your mouth loses saliva, the saliva which helps prevent dental disease by killing bacteria.
Attrition: Better known as wear and tear, your risk for cavities increases from the continual years of chewing and grinding.
So, what can you do to prevent dental disaster as an elder?
Try grabbing onto some thicker floss for your teeth. Why? It is great at holding on to plaque and food debris. By getting rid of these little monsters in your mouth, you are less likely to have cavities and dental disease as a result.
Is it time to rinse your mouth out from that meal you had half an hour ago? Instead of sticking with the same mouthwash you always use, try one that has more fluoride. Higher levels of fluoride provide extra cavity-fighting strength. A good rinse is also great for fresh breath and who doesn’t want that?
Drinking lots of water helps hydrate your entire body which keeps you and your teeth healthy. Water is a great aid in dry mouth and can rinse away negative particles left in the crevices of your teeth.
Of course, amongst all these tips, the best trick for keeping a healthy mouth as you age is going for regular dental check-ups and cleanings. Your dentist has all the skills needed to ensure you don’t end up in dental trouble.
Don’t be that senior without teeth, incurring tons of dental bills because of oral health problems. Instead of worrying about your health as time goes on, keep up on your dental care routine for a relaxed mind and a healthy mouth.
